Q: Is a name availability check required before forming a corporation or LLC?
A: A name availability check is NOT required before forming your corporation or Limited Liability Company (LLC). However, it may be wise to reserve a corporate or LLC name if you are not yet ready to form the entity at this time or have some reason for delaying its formation.
Q: What if my name is not available?
A: Sometimes your business name may be already be in use by another company. In such instances, you may consider selecting a new corporate or LLC name that does not conflict with an existing business name in the jurisdiction where you are incorporating.

A: The only way to change the legal name of a state-level entity such as a corporation or LLC is to file an amendment to the Articles of Incorporation/Organization.
